Play with clay! This hand-building pottery class invites young creatives, ages 5 – 8, to step off the flat page and into the exciting world of three dimensional creation. Through simple hand building and pottery techniques, children learn the foundational skills of shaping, modeling, and finishing clay. In this hands on studio class they become innovators, experimenting with texture, form, and contemporary finishes to produce their own unique sculptures. The class balances playful exploration with skill building, giving every budding sculptor the confidence to bring ideas to life in clay.
Week one: Learn some basic hand-building techniques and create simple geometric sculptures.
Week Two: Explore imprinting and carving, producing textured pieces that will be painted or glazed.
Week Three: Focus on proportion and expressive details while sculpting beloved animals or imaginative creatures.
Week Four: Learn to capture organize curves in clay while creating leaves, shells, and exploring natural textures.
Week Five: Craft small, functional objects like cups, bowls, or jewelry as you are introduced to basic finishing techniques for a contemporary look.
Week Six: Experiment with mixed media finishes and shared storytelling before individual works are combined into a collaborative 3-D installation.
