Ceramics: Wheel Throwing 1

Get your hands dirty! Learn how to create your own wheel-thrown pottery in this 8-week introductory pottery class taught by Ines Delapi.
Over the course of this class, you will learn key skills, like centering clay and how to glaze complete pottery. By the end of the class, you’ll have created 3 – 5 unique pottery pieces!
Week One: You’ll be introduced to wheel throwing, studio safety, clay preparation, and some basic vocabulary while you work to create a basic cylinder on the wheel
Week Two: Learn how to refine your cylinder, the stages of clay, and wrap up your cylinder creation.
Week Three: Begin creating your own bowl! Learn how to use various tools to refine the shape and get introduced to the glazing basics.
Week Four: Learn about more advanced trimming methods, how to attach handles for mugs, and how to add texture with carving while you continue working on your previous projects.
Week Five: You’ll learn how to throw taller forms with even walls and how to alter your forms with faceting and indentations before beginning your third project: a decorative vase.
Week Six: Continue working on your vase, use tools to carve and decorate, and learn how to use underglaze.
Week Seven: Learn more glazing techniques as you continue working on your final project
Week Eight: In this last class, you’ll finish your final project and prepare your pieces for glaze firing.
