Artist Shelly Kaye will lead you through hands-on exercises and guided projects, where you’ll explore the seven elements of art and learn how to use them to create compelling paintings. Experiment with color mixing, light, and shadow, composition, depth, brushwork, and acrylic techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment. Each week introduces new skills that lead to a final acrylic painting that brings together all seven elements of painting.
Week one: Learn about lines and shapes and how they make up the foundation of every painting as you create an abstract composition using simple shapes and dynamic lines.
Week two: Explore value and how it add depth to forms before painting a still life using only one color plus black and/or white.
Week three: Get colorful! Learn about color through making your own color wheel before working on a simple still life using a limited color palette.
Week four: Learn how to use space to create depth, distance, and perspective then create a landscape that emphasizes depth.
Week five: Explore texture by experimenting with different painting methods while completing a texture study.
Week six: Apply the elements you’ve learned in the past few weeks to create a unique acrylic painting
